Trois fois l’or et une fois l’argent pour les plongeurs canadiens

Montréal, 14 mai 2025 – Les plongeurs canadiens ont connu une autre faste journée aux Championnats panaméricains des sports aquatiques présentés à Medellín, en Colombie, où ils ont récolté quatre nouvelles médailles mercredi.

Thomas Ciprick, Lila Gokiert et Sara-Jade Tessier sont montés sur la plus haute marche du podium, alors que Maia Jane a remporté l’argent pour procurer un autre doublé au pays en catégorie C.

Dernier plongeur canadien en action lors de cette deuxième journée d’activités à la piscine olympique Cesar Zapata, Thomas Ciprick en a mis plein la vue au concours du tremplin de 1 mètre chez les hommes. Il a récolté un total de 349,05 points pour devancer tous les autres compétiteurs et mettre la main sur la médaille tant convoitée.

« C’était une journée pleine de rebondissements ! Mon but était simplement d’être le plus constant possible et j’ai réussi à la faire malgré plusieurs facteurs incontrôlables, comme la visibilité. C’était la clé aujourd’hui et je suis très content de ma performance dans l’ensemble ! » a lancé le Québécois tout juste avant la cérémonie de remise des médailles.

Sur le podium, Ciprick a été accompagné du Vénézuélien Jesus Reyes (343,05) et du Colombien Simon Zapata (327,90). Également en action dans cette catégorie, les Québécois Emmitt Reesor (309,70) et Samuel McCaffrey (306,60) ont respectivement terminé septième et huitième.

De son côté, l’Albertaine Lila Gokiert a gagné la médaille d’or chez les filles en catégorie A à la plateforme de 10 m grâce à un impressionnant cumulatif de 381,75 points, qui lui a permis de distancer toutes ses rivales pour filer vers la victoire.

« C’est une belle expérience, très différente de ce à quoi nous sommes habitués, a confié l’athlète de Calgary. J’étais calme, j’ai été très constante et j’ai même pu réussir de nouveaux plongeons. C’est une superbe journée, je ne m’attendais pas à gagner une médaille, alors c’est un véritable honneur de pouvoir monter sur le podium. »

Les Mexicaines Suri Lobato (346,05) et Kelly Mejorada (343,40) ont complété le podium à cette épreuve, tandis que la Québécoise Mathilde Laberge s’est classée cinquième en vertu de ses 322,30 points.

Finalement, comme elles l’avaient fait la veille en ouverture de l’événement, Sara-Jade Tessier et Maia Jane ont signé un autre doublé canadien en catégorie C chez les filles, cette fois-ci au tremplin de 3 mètres. Elles ont respectivement récolté 265,35 points et 259,65 points pour rafler les médailles d’or et d’argent devant la Colombienne Luciana Torres (241,65).

L’action reprendra dès jeudi du côté de Medellín alors que sept épreuves seront au menu. Plusieurs plongeurs du Canada seront en action pour l’occasion, dont Samuel Talbot, Kash Tarasoff, Dean Calfacacos, Samuel McCaffrey et Arnaud Corbeil à la plateforme de 10 m en catégorie A. Lila Stewart sera pour sa part du concours féminin ouvert au tremplin de 1 mètre, tandis que Daniela Durevska plongera au 3 mètres en catégorie B chez les filles.

Three Gold and One Silver for Canada’s Divers!

Montréal, May 14, 2025 – Canada’s diving team continued its winning streak on Wednesday at the Pan-American Aquatic Sports Championships in Medellín, Colombia, clinching four more medals on day two of the diving events.

Thomas Ciprick, Lila Gokiert, and Sara-Jade Tessier climbed to the top of the podium in their respective categories, while Maia Jane snagged a silver medal in another one-two Canadian finish in Group C.

Ciprick, the last Canadian to dive at the Cesar Zapata Olympic Pool on Wednesday, put on an impressive show in the men’s 1m springboard event, edging out his opponents and claiming the coveted medal with a total of 349.05 points.

“There were a lot of ups and downs today! My goal was to be as consistent as possible, which I managed to do despite there being a few factors that were beyond my control, like the visibility levels. That was the key today, and overall, I’m happy with my performance!” said the Québécois, moments before the medal ceremony.

Ciprick was accompanied on the podium by Jesus Reyes of Venezuela (343.05) and Simon Zapata of Colombia (327.90). In the same category, Emmitt Reesor (309.70) and Samuel McCaffrey (306.60) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

In the girls’ Group A 10m platform competition, Alberta’s Lila Gokiert clinched the gold medal with an outstanding 381.75 points, well ahead of her opponents.

“This has been a great experience. It’s very different from what we’re used to,” said the Calgarian. “I felt calm, I was very consistent, and I even did well on some of my new dives. It was a great day, but I wasn’t expecting to win a medal, so it was a real honour for me to be on the podium.”

In the same event, Mexico’s Suri Lobato (346.05) and Kelly Mejorada (343.40) completed the podium, while Quebec’s Mathilde Laberge finished fifth with 322.30 points.

And finally, just as they did yesterday, Sara-Jade Tessier and Maia Jane secured another one-two finish for Canada, this time in the girls’ Group C 3m springboard event. With their respective scores of 265.35 and 259.65, they captured the gold and silver medals, ahead of Colombia’s Luciana Torres (241.65).

The action will continue on Thursday in Medellín, where there are seven diving events on the day’s program. Canadians Samuel Talbot, Kash Tarasoff, Dean Calfacacos, Samuel McCaffrey, and Arnaud Corbeil will compete in the boys’ Group A 10m platform event, Lila Stewart will battle it out in the 1m women’s open category, and Daniela Durevska will test herself in the girls’ Group C 3m springboard event.
