Une récolte en deçà des attentes
Montréal, 15 octobre 2025 – Les judokas canadiens ont remporté quatre médailles de bronze, mardi, à l’Open panaméricain de judo de Lima….

Montréal, 13 octobre 2025 – Coralie Godbout a fait belle figure lundi à la dernière journée du Grand Prix de Lima, au Pérou en montant sur la troisième marche du podium dans la catégorie des moins de 78 kg. Il s’agit de la troisième médaille du Canada à Lima, après celle d’or remportée par Jessica Klimkait, dimanche, ainsi que celle d’argent de Julien Frascadore, samedi.
En finale de bronze, Godbout a eu raison de la Brésilienne Karol Gimenes afin de concrétiser sa place sur la troisième marche du podium. Après avoir réussi un waza-ari en début de combat, la Québécoise est demeurée en contrôle afin de fermer les livres avec une trentaine de secondes à faire au temps réglementaire.
« Ça s’approchait de la perfection comme combat. Elle a marqué rapidement et a complètement maîtrisé son adversaire par la suite. Elle a bien protégé son avance sans se mettre en danger. Elle peut dire mission accomplie. Toujours en contrôle et elle essayait d’aller chercher d’autres points, c’était super », a indiqué l’entraîneur canadien Antoine Bouchard.
Après avoir vaincu la Britannique Nicole Wood lors de son premier affrontement de la journée, Godbout a été coriace face à la Slovène Metka Lobnik au tour suivant. Lobnik l’a toutefois emporté grâce à un waza-ari, en route vers la plus haute marche du podium.
L’athlète de 24 ans a ensuite profité du forfait de la Lithuanienne Migle Julija Dudenaite au repêchage pour accéder directement au combat pour le bronze.
« Son premier combat n’a pas été trop compliqué. Elle a été bonne dans tous les aspects. Malheureusement, elle a semblé suivre le rythme de la Slovène, qui est une énorme pointure dans sa catégorie. Malgré la défaite, l’expérience de se battre contre une fille comme la Slovène sera positive pour le futur », a ajouté Bouchard.
De son côté, Guillaume Gaulin (-90 kg) a été expéditif à son premier duel du jour, l’emportant en moins d’une minute face Juan Manuel Gorriz Violante, de l’Uruguay. Il a toutefois été freiné au tour suivant contre le Tchèque Adam Kopecky.
« Guillaume a bien commencé sa journée avec une victoire rapide, mais il n’a pas été capable d’éviter les situations dangereuses dans le combat suivant et c’est ce qui a mené à la victoire de son adversaire », a conclu l’entraîneur canadien.
Gaulin, Godbout et plusieurs de leurs compatriotes seront de retour en action dès demain, mardi, au Pérou, alors qu’ils participeront à l’Open panaméricain de Lima.

Coralie Godbout earns bronze in Lima
Montréal, October 13, 2025 – Coralie Godbout had an excellent day on Monday, earning a bronze medal in the Under 78kg category on the final day of the Grand Prix in Lima, Peru. This is Team Canada’s third medal in Lima, following Jessica Klimkait’s gold medal on Sunday, and Julien Frascadore’s silver medal on Saturday.
In the bronze medal match, Godbout defeated Brazil’s Karol Gimenes to secure her place on the third step of the podium. After scoring a waza-ari early on in the bout, the Quebecoise continued to demonstrate her abilities, and was able to keep control for the remaining 30 seconds left in regulation time.
“It was a nearly perfect bout. She scored quickly and completely dominated her opponent afterwards. She protected her lead well without putting herself in danger. She did a great job! She was always in charge and trying to score more points, which was great,” said Canadian coach Antoine Bouchard.
After defeating Nicole Wood (Britain) in her first match of the day, Godbout put up a tough fight against Slovenia’s Metka Lobnik in the following round. However, Lobnik won with a waza-ari – on her way to the top step of the podium and gold medal.
The 24-year-old Canadian judoka was however, able to take advantage of Lithuanian Migle Julija Dudenaite’s surprise withdrawal from the repechage, and thus advanced directly to the bronze medal match.
« Her first fight wasn’t too tricky – she performed well in every element of it. Unfortunately, it seemed like Godbout was letting the Slovenian set the pace; and the latter is a huge name in their category. Despite the loss, the experience of fighting against an opponent of that calibre is ultimately positive in terms of her future, » added Bouchard.
On the men’s tatami, Guillaume Gaulin (-90 kg) made quick work of his opponent in his first match of the day, winning in less than a minute against Juan Manuel Gorriz Violante (Uruguay). However, he was sadly halted in the next round by Adam Kopecky (Czech Republic).
“Guillaume started his day well with a quick victory, but he wasn’t able to avoid a few costly situations in the next fight, and that’s what led to his opponent’s victory,” noted the Canadian coach.
Still hungry for judo excellence? Action on the tatami continues tomorrow, Tuesday, in Peru, where Gaulin, Godbout, and several of their teammates, will compete in the Pan American Open in Lima.
