Les judokas cadets récoltent une médaille d’argent et deux de bronze

Evelyn Beaton monte sur la troisième marche du podium chez les seniors

Montréal, 15 février 2026 – Les judokas canadiens en action, dimanche, à la Coupe européenne cadet de Samorin, en Slovaquie, ont récolté une médaille d’argent et deux médailles de bronze.

Matthew Molchanov (-90 kg) est monté sur la deuxième marche du podium pendant que Franck David Moussima Ewane Elouti (+90 kg) et Nicole Daria Manaila (-52 kg) se sont décorés de bronze.

Molchanov a remporté quatre combats avant d’être défait en finale par le Lituanien Tajus Babaicenko.

« Il a fait une belle compétition. Il était très concentré sur ses combats, mais a perdu en finale face au numéro un mondial de la catégorie. C’était un combat qui n’était pas évident pour Molchanov, mais il s’est bien battu », a partagé l’entraîneur canadien Franck Moussima.

De son côté, Franck David Moussima Ewane Elouti a remporté son premier combat avant d’être défait en demi-finale par le Bosniaque Nikola Lubura. Il est ensuite passé par le repêchage ou il a eu le dessus sur le Serbe Luka Delevic, ce qui lui a permis de récolter la médaille de bronze.

« Le point positif de la journée pour lui a été sa capacité de se redonner de la motivation pour son combat au repêchage », a affirmé l’entraîneur.

Chez les femmes, Nicole Daria Manaila a remporté trois combats avant de s’incliner en demi-finale face à la Hongroise Iza Bartyik. Elle a ensuite vaincu la Roumaine Isabela Ioana Neagu au repêchage afin de monter sur la troisième marche du podium.

« Elle a fait une magnifique journée. Malheureusement, elle a perdu en demi-finale sur une erreur d’entrée de jeu. Elle n’a pas vraiment eu le temps de s’exprimer dans le combat, mais dans tous les autres, elle a fait un super travail au sol et n’a vraiment rien donné à ses adversaires. »

« Pour moi, c’est une des meilleures performances qu’on a eues aujourd’hui. Elle a très bien travaillé et a montré un judo vraiment intéressant », a-t-il ajouté.

De son côté, Emiliya Aliyeva (+70 kg) a terminé la journée avec une fiche d’une victoire et deux défaites alors que Victoria Summers (-63kg) a pour sa part été limité à un seul combat.

Chez les moins de 81 kg, Emelyan Sokolov a remporté un combat en deux affrontements. Dans la même catégorie, Lucas Gabriele a été défait à son seul combat de la journée.

Evelyn Beaton décorée de bronze

La judoka albertaine, Evelyne Beaton (-52 kg) est montée sur la troisième marche du podium, dimanche, à la Coupe européenne senior de Ljubljana, en Slovénie.

Beaton a remporté ses deux premiers combats avant d’être défait par l’Italienne Ilaria Finestrone en demi-finale. La Canadienne a ensuite vaincu l’Allemande Chiara Serra pour décrocher la médaille de bronze.

Beaton était la seule Canadienne en action dimanche à Ljubljana. Elle avait vaincu l’Allemande Nicole Stakhov et l’Italienne Alessandra Rocco afin d’accéder à la demi-finale.

« Elle n’était pas si satisfaite de sa performance, mais une médaille, c’est une médaille ! », a commenté son entraîneur Janusz Pawlowski.

One Silver and Two Bronze for Cadets

Evelyn Beaton Third in Senior Category

Montréal, February 15, 2026 – Canada’s judokas picked up one silver medal and two bronze at the Cadet European Cup in Šamorín, Slovakia, on Sunday.

Matthew Molchanov (-90 kg) ended the day on the second step of the podium, while Franck David Moussima Ewane Elouti (+90 kg) and Nicole Daria Manaila (-52 kg) finished on the third.

Molchanov racked up four straight victories before being defeated by Tajus Babaicenko of Lithuania in the big final.

“He had a great tournament. He was very focused during his bouts, but he lost the final to the internationally number one-ranked judoka in his category. It was a difficult match for Molchanov, but he fought well,” explained Canadian coach Franck Moussima.

As for Moussima Ewane Elouti, he won his first bout, but bowed out to Nikola Lubura of Bosnia in the semi-finals. In the repechage, he defeated Luka Delevic of Serbia to clinch the bronze medal.

“A strong point of his day was his ability to motivate himself once again for his repechage match,” noted the coach.

On the women’s side, Manaila won three bouts before falling to Hungary’s Iza Bartyik in the semi-finals. She then advanced to the repechage, where she secured the bronze medal with a victory over Isabela Ioana Neagu of Romania.

“[Nicole Daria] had an excellent day. Unfortunately, an early error in the semi-finals cost her the match, so she didn’t have the opportunity to show what she was capable of. But in all her other bouts, her ground work was very strong, and she didn’t give anything up to her opponents. In my opinion, it was one of the best performances we saw today. She did great work, and her judo was very impressive,” said the coach.

Emiliya Aliyeva (+70 kg) ended the day with one win and two losses, while Victoria Summers (-63 kg) was limited to a single match.

In the men’s under-81 kg weight class, Emelyan Sokolov won one of his two bouts. In the same category, Lucas Gabriele lost his only bout of the day.

Bronze for Beaton

Alberta’s Evelyn Beaton (-52 kg) secured a bronze medal on Sunday at the Senior European Cup in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

She prevailed in her first two bouts before succumbing to Ilaria Finestrone of Italy in the semi-finals. In the bronze medal final, she ousted Chiara Serra of Germany to claim the prize.

Beaton was the only Canadian in action in Ljubljana on Sunday. In order to reach the semi-finals, she had earlier defeated Nicole Stakhov of Germany and Alessandra Rocco of Italy.

“She wasn’t satisfied with her performance, but a medal is a medal!” said her coach, Janusz Pawlowski.
