Montréal, 12 avril 2026 – Chaque fois que Benjamin Tessier entrait dans l’eau, la foule présente à Windsor, en Ontario, pour la Coupe Canada s’exclamait de plus en plus fort ! Le Québécois a survolé la finale à la plateforme de 10 m avec un impressionnant total de 513,10 points, un record personnel qui lui a permis de remporter la médaille d’or.

Troisième après son premier plongeon qui lui a valu 81,60 points, Tessier a pris le contrôle de l’épreuve et n’a plus jamais regardé derrière. Il a notamment obtenu 93,50 points à son deuxième passage sur la plateforme, ainsi que 91,80 lors de son avant-dernier plongeon, avec un saut qu’il vient tout juste d’ajouter à sa liste.

« C’était un de mes objectifs de réussir un pointage comme celui-là. Pour faire 500 points, ça prend des 8,5 et des 9 pendant toute la séance. Je ne sais pas quel est le record canadien exactement, mais je sais que c’est Alexandre Despatie qui l’a et mon prochain but sera de le dépasser », a lancé Benjamin Tessier, en riant.

« J’avais hâte de faire cette liste de plongeons dans cet ordre-là. Surtout avec mon avant-dernier plongeon, je l’ai bien réussi, mais je pense être capable de l’améliorer encore. On est très proche d’une liste idéale. Ça n’a pas toujours été facile lors des dernières années, mais mes parents et mon entraîneure ont toujours cru en moi pour m’aider à ne jamais abandonner. Ce n’est que le début », a-t-il ajouté.

Tessier a été accompagné sur le podium par le Britannique Noah Williams (511,45 points), double médaillé des Jeux olympiques de Paris, et par l’Allemand Ole Rossler (441,05 points).

Trois autres représentants de l’unifolié ont participé à la finale, Kash Tarasoff (368,60), Matt Cullen (323,35) et Claude-Olivier Lisé-Coderre (259,20) se sont classés 9^e, 11^e et 12^e.

Tessier n’a pas été le seul Canadien à monter sur un podium dimanche, à Windsor. Lors de la finale individuelle au tremplin de 3 m du côté féminin, Margo Erlam a mis la main sur la médaille de bronze au lendemain de sa deuxième place en synchro en compagnie de Sonya Palkhivala.

L’Albertaine a fait preuve de constance afin de se frayer un chemin jusqu’à la troisième marche du podium, obtenant entre 64,50 et 67,50 points à chacun de ses cinq plongeons de la séance. Elle termine la journée avec une récolte de 330,65 points, et un record personnel.

« Je suis tellement excitée. J’ai toujours du plaisir à la Coupe Canada et c’est incroyable de battre mon record et gagner des médailles ici. J’apprends de plus en plus à me connaître comme plongeuse et ça se transpose dans mes résultats. Je suis souvent trop sérieuse pendant les compétitions, mais aujourd’hui, j’ai vraiment réussi à m’amuser », s’est réjouie Erlam.

Tout juste derrière elle, Mia Vallée a pris le quatrième rang avec 326,10 points. La Québécoise a elle aussi été extrêmement constante en finale, en route vers une nouvelle marque personnelle.

« Mon objectif était de réussir cinq bons plongeons et ne pas me casser la tête avec le classement. Ç’a été un succès et j’ai battu mon record personnel par un petit point ! Je ne pense pas avoir fait quelque chose d’exceptionnel, mais j’ai plongé comme je le fais à l’entraînement, c’est ce qui a fait la différence. J’ai eu beaucoup de plaisir », a indiqué Vallée.

Amélie-Laura Jasmin (289,95) et Sonya Palkhivala (279,45) ont de leur côté terminé huitième et neuvième, respectivement. Vallée et Jasmin étaient montées sur la plus haute marche du podium la veille, en synchro.

Les Chinoises Yiping Long, première, et Zhixin Qu, deuxième, ont obtenu 347,55 et 342,80 points afin de s’emparer des deux plus hautes marches du podium.

Au 3 m synchro chez les hommes, Kash Tarasoff et Tazman Abramowicz ont conclu la séance au sixième rang avec une récolte de 322,89 points. Les Américains Maxwell Flory et Collier Dyer l’ont emporté en vertu de leurs 396,33 points.

Gold Medal and Personal Best for Benjamin Tessier

Montréal, April 12, 2026 – Each time Benjamin Tessier hit the water at the Canada Cup in Windsor, Ontario, on Sunday, the spectators cheered even louder! The Québécois dominated the men’s 10m platform final with an impressive 513.10 points, a personal best that netted him the gold medal.

After his first dive (81.60 points) landed him in third place, Tessier took control of the competition and never once looked back. He scored 93.50 points on his second jump, and his penultimate dive—a sequence he only recently added to his repertoire—earned him 91.80.

“One of my goals was to earn a score like this one. In order to get up into the five-hundreds, you need to earn eight-point-fives and nines throughout the entire round. I don’t know exactly what the Canadian record is, but I know it’s Alexandre Despatie who holds it, and my next goal will be to beat it,” said Tessier, chuckling.

“I was really looking forward to doing these dives, in this particular order. Especially my second-last dive. And although it went very well, I think I could do even better. I’ve almost got my ideal list down. It hasn’t always been easy these past few years, but my parents and my coach always kept believing in me, so that I wouldn’t quit. Now, I’m just getting started,” he added.

The gold medallist was accompanied on the podium by two-time Paris Olympic medallist Noah Williams of Great Britain (511.45) and Ole Rossler of Germany (441.05).

Tessier’s fellow Canadians Kash Tarasoff (368.60), Matt Cullen (323.35), and Claude-Olivier Lisé-Coderre (259.20) also competed in the finals, finishing ninth, eleventh, and twelfth, respectively.

Tessier was not the only Canadian to step onto the podium in Windsor on Sunday. In the women’s individual 3m finals, Margo Erlam captured the bronze medal, just one day after winning silver in the synchronized event with Sonya Palkhivala.

The Albertan remained consistent as she worked her way to the third step of the podium, scoring between 64.50 and 67.50 on each of her five dives. She finished the day with 330.65 points and a new personal best.

“I’m so excited! I always enjoy competing at the Canada Cup, so it feels amazing to have beaten my record and won medals here. I’m getting to know myself better and better as a diver, and that’s showing up in my results. Sometimes I’m too serious during competitions, but today, I truly managed to enjoy myself,” she enthused.

Just behind Erlam, Mia Vallée finished fourth with 326.10 points. The Québécoise also showed great consistency throughout the event, diving her way to a new personal best.

“My goal was to perform my five dives well, and not worry about the standings. I succeeded in doing that, and I also beat my record by a point! I don’t think I did anything exceptional, but I dove the same way I do in practice, and that’s what made the difference. I had a lot of fun,” said Vallée.

In the same event, Amélie-Laura Jasmin (289.95) and Sonya Palkhivala (279.45) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Yesterday, Vallée and Jasmin won gold in the synchronized event.

Today’s top two finishers in the women’s individual 3m event were Yiping Long and Zhixin Qu, both of China, with scores of 347.55 and 342.80.

In the men’s synchronized 3m finals, Tarasoff and Tazman Abramowicz finished sixth with 322.89 points. Maxwell Flory and Collier Dyer of the USA won the gold medal with 396.33 points.
