Alistair Nisbet à 4,55 points d’une médaille de bronze

Montréal, 26 août 2026 – Alistair Nisbet a conclu sa participation aux Championnats du monde juniors de Rijeka, en Croatie, en finissant bien près du podium de la finale masculine du tremplin 3 m (14-15 ans). Provisoirement huitième, le Québécois a réalisé une belle remontée afin de se classer quatrième.

« Mes deux premiers plongeons étaient médiocres, mais ensuite, ils étaient de meilleure qualité. J’ai raté la médaille de bronze par seulement 4,55 points, alors si mon premier plongeon avait été un peu plus payant, je pense que j’aurais facilement eu le bronze », a mentionné l’athlète de 15 ans, qui a totalisé 445,00 points.

Le Russe Miroslav Kiselev (492,95) s’est imposé devant le Mexicain Ian Caleb Nava Gutierrez (476,60) et l’Australien Hayden Brinckley (449,55). L’Albertain Chase Shaw s’était classé 13^e de la ronde préliminaire et a ainsi raté la finale par un seul rang.

Il s’agit d’une deuxième quatrième place pour Nisbet en Croatie, lui qui avait aussi décroché ce résultat à la plateforme, dimanche.

« Même si je ne suis pas médaillé, je suis vraiment content de mes performances. Ces quatrièmes places sont importantes pour moi, car c’était ma première compétition internationale majeure. Je n’avais donc pas de grandes attentes et je voulais juste me rendre dans les finales. J’ai dépassé mes objectifs et je suis content de ma semaine ! »

La Québécoise Sara-Jade Tessier a été l’autre finaliste canadienne du jour, prenant le neuvième rang de la plateforme des filles B avec 308,20 points. Les Chinoises Qingcheng Yuan (404,35) et Yuehan Jiang (368,60) ont signé le doublé pour devancer la Mexicaine Lia Yatzil Cueva Lobato (331,55).

« Je m’attendais à être dans le top-6. J’avais trop hâte de participer à la compétition, j’ai donné toute l’énergie que j’avais et c’était un peu trop pour bien plonger », a reconnu Tessier, qui prend part à ses premiers mondiaux.

Maia Jane, de la Colombie-Britannique, a fini 17^e de la ronde préliminaire.

Les deux Canadiennes seront de retour en action jeudi, au tremplin de 3 m, dans le cadre de l’avant-dernière journée des Championnats du monde juniors.

Quant à Samuel Talbot et Kash Tarasoff, ils s’élanceront à la plateforme A, chez les garçons.

Alistair Nisbet Only 4.55 Points Shy of Bronze

Montréal, August 26, 2026 – Alistair Nisbet wrapped up his run at the Junior World Championships in Rijeka, Croatia just 4.55 points short of a podium finish in the boys’ 3m springboard finals (ages 14-15) on Wednesday. The Québécois, who started off in provisional eighth place, mounted a strong comeback to finish fourth.

“My first two dives were not all that great, but then things improved. I finished only 4.55 points short of the bronze medal, so if I had earned a higher score on my first dive, I think I could have easily taken the bronze,” said the 15-year-old athlete, who amassed a total of 445.00 points in the competition.

Miroslav Kiselev of Russia (492.95) took the top spot on the podium, followed by Ian Caleb Nava Gutierrez of Mexico (476.60) and Hayden Brinckley of Australia (449.55). Alberta’s Chase Shaw placed 13th in the preliminary rounds, thus missing out on the finals by only one spot.

For Nisbet, it was his second fourth-place finish in Croatia. He achieved the same result in Sunday’s platform event.

“Even though I didn’t win a medal here, I’m really happy with the way I performed. My fourth-place finishes mean a lot to me, because this is my first major international competition. So I didn’t have any big expectations. I just wanted to make it to the finals. And in that regard, I exceeded my expectations. So I’m really happy with my week!” 

Sara-Jade Tessier of Quebec was Canada’s other finalist of the day. She finished ninth in the girls’ Group B platform competition, with 308.20 points. China’s Qingcheng Yuan (404.35) and Yuehan Jiang (368.60) nabbed the top two spots, ahead of Mexico’s Lia Yatzil Cueva Lobato (331.55).

“I had expected to finish in the top six. I was really looking forward to this competition, so I gave it all the energy I had, which was maybe a bit too much for me to be able to dive well,” admitted Tessier, who is competing in her very first world championships.

Maia Jane of British Columbia placed 17th in the preliminaries.

Tessier and Jane will be back in action on Thursday in the 3m springboard event, on the penultimate day of the Junior World Championships.

As for Samuel Talbot and Kash Tarasoff, they will take part in the boys’ Group A platform contest.
