Plongeon Canada – Invitation Bolzano

Make It Three for Pamela Ware

Bolzano, July 17, 2022 – It’s not the colour she had been hoping for, but Pamela Ware (Montréal, QC) is proud to have won the bronze medal in the 1-metre springboard competition at the Bolzano Invitational in Italy on the final day of the event.

Ware, who was first in the provisional standings after three jumps, struggled slightly on her last two attempts, but still obtained a high enough score to finish the day on the third step of the podium with 258.95 points.

“I’m happy in that it’s been a long time since I competed internationally in the 1-metre, so it’s a positive result. My last dive didn’t go perfectly, so I could have had a higher score. But overall, I’m happy with my performance,” said Ware.

Having won bronze in the individual event and gold in the 3m synchronized event, the Québécoise is pleased to have ended the season on a high note, especially after a rather difficult start to the year.

“I feel satisfied with my weekend. I know I could have done better, but I’m still happy. I’ve had a pretty hard year, so it’s nice to end it on a high note.”

Aimee Wilson (Calgary, AB) finished the event in fifth place. The Albertan attempted a particularly difficult combination on her third dive, which caused her to lose a few points. However, Ware was glad to see her teammate and friend take the risk.

“I spoke with Aimee after the event and she seemed a bit disappointed, but she had set herself a significant challenge with that big dive and that high degree of difficulty. I’m proud she had the courage to try it at such a critical time,” stated Ware.

Sweden’s Emilia Nilsson Garip won the gold medal with 272.55 points. She edged out Italy’s Chiara Pellacani by 12.95 points for the top spot on the podium.

Canada captured five medals at the Bolzano Invitational. In addition to those won by Ware, Kate Miller (Ottawa, ON) and Carson Paul (Victoria, BC) also earned medals this weekend.
