Montréal, 15 mai 2026 – Il y a un an, Emma Tritton s’était inclinée en grande finale des moins de 57 kg aux Championnats canadiens ouverts. La Québécoise voulait tout mettre en œuvre pour se retrouver sur la plus haute marche du podium cette année. Mission accomplie pour Tritton, nouvelle championne canadienne des moins de 18 ans.

Après avoir profité d’un laissez-passer au premier tour, l’athlète de Châteauguay a vaincu la Néo-Brunswickoise Momo McManus, la Québécoise Maika Nephtali et l’Ontarienne Ahniia Grebennikova afin d’atteindre le combat ultime.

Tritton a alors mis un point d’exclamation sur sa journée en l’emportant face à Nicole Daria Manaila, qui termine avec la médaille d’argent pour la deuxième année d’affilée.

« Pendant la finale, je me sentais en plein contrôle et, honnêtement, encore mieux que pendant tous mes autres combats de la journée. C’est à ce moment que j’ai vraiment réalisé que j’étais capable d’aller chercher la victoire. Mon père est mon entraîneur et il me pousse toujours à être la meilleure version de moi-même », a partagé Emma Tritton.

Dalia Benhamou (-44 kg), Zoe Element (-48 kg), Leiya Chiasson (-52 kg), Presley Tompkins (-63 kg), Malak Azar (-70 kg) et Emiliya Aliyeva (+70 kg) ont été les autres médaillées d’or du jour chez les moins de 18 ans.

Médaillé de bronze aux Championnats panaméricains cadets il y a deux semaines, Jasur Aliyev a poursuivi sa lancée vendredi en s’imposant aux Championnats canadiens ouverts chez les moins de 81 kg.

L’Ontarien avait rendez-vous avec Sarmat Kibizov, lui aussi de l’Ontario, en grande finale. Aliyev a réussi à défaire son compatriote en temps supplémentaire afin de remporter la médaille d’or. Dax Norman et Drake Gregory ont complété le podium de la catégorie.

La journée de travail d’Aliyev n’a pas été de tout repos puisqu’il a personnellement dû vaincre tous les médaillés afin de se frayer un chemin jusqu’au sommet du podium. Il a eu raison de Gregory en quart de finale avant de venir à bout de Norman au tour suivant.

« J’avais le bon état d’esprit durant toute la journée, mais particulièrement lors de la finale, c’est vraiment ce qui m’a permis d’aller chercher la médaille d’or. J’avais énormément d’énergie durant ce dernier combat. Je me suis entraîné très fort pour cette compétition, je veux toujours m’améliorer et cette victoire me montre que c’est possible », a commenté Jasur Aliyev.

Giorgi Kurashvili (-50 kg), Grayson Tamura (-55 kg), Roman Semyrozun (-60 kg), Anes Mati (-66 kg), Jonas Nelissen (-73 kg), Emelyan Sokolov (-90 kg) et Franck David Moussima Ewane Elouti (+90 kg) ont également terminé la journée sur la plus haute marche du podium.

Les Championnats canadiens ouverts se poursuivent samedi, à Calgary, avec la présentation des compétitions chez les moins de 16 ans et les moins de 21 ans.

“I felt like I was in complete control” – Emma Tritton

Montréal, May 15, 2026 – One year ago, Emma Tritton lost the under-57 kg final at the Canadian Open Championships. So this year, the Québécoise was determined to do whatever it took to stand on the top step of the podium. And she succeeded: Tritton is the new U18 Canadian champion.

After receiving a bye in the first round, the athlete from Châteauguay defeated Momo McManus of New Brunswick, Maika Nephtali of Quebec, and Ahniia Grebennikova of Ontario to advance to the final match.

Tritton then capped off her day with a victory over Nicole Daria Manaila, who will go home with silver for the second year in a row.

“In the final, I felt like I was in complete control, and to be honest, I felt better in that bout than in any of my other fights today. That’s when I realized I really could win it. My dad is my coach, and he always pushes me to be the best I can be,” said Tritton.

Dalia Benhamou (-44 kg), Zoe Element (-48 kg), Leiya Chiasson (-52 kg), Presley Tompkins (-63 kg), Malak Azar (-70 kg), and Emiliya Aliyeva (+70 kg) were the other gold medallists in the U18 age group.

Jasur Aliyev, who won bronze at the Cadet Pan-American Championships two weeks ago, took top honours in the under-81 kg division today at the Canadian Open Championships.

Aliyev found himself up against fellow Ontarian Sarmat Kibizov in the big final, where he bested Kibizov in overtime to capture the gold medal. Dax Norman and Drake Gregory completed the podium in that weight division.

The day was no walk in the park for Aliyev, who had to beat every single one of the other medallists on his way to the top of the podium. He defeated Gregory in the quarter-finals, before taking down Norman in the next round.

“I was in a good headspace all day, but I felt especially good in the final—that’s really what allowed me to win the gold medal. I had tons of energy during that last match. I trained really hard for this competition. I always want to keep improving, and this win showed me it’s possible,” said Aliyev.

The Canadian Open Championships will continue on Saturday in Calgary, with competitions in the U16 and U21 divisions.
