La communauté canadienne de judo mise de l’avant au Gala annuel des prix et reconnaissances 2023-24 !

Montréal, 28 mai 2024 – Tous deux nommés athlètes seniors par excellence, Christa Deguchi et François Gauthier-Drapeau se sont retrouvés parmi les 18 récipiendaires du Gala annuel des prix et reconnaissances 2023-2024 de Judo Canada, dimanche, à Montréal.

Présenté en conclusion des Championnats nationaux ouverts qui ont eu lieu du 23 au 26 mai au Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, l’événement a permis de mettre en valeur le travail de bénévoles, de clubs et d’athlètes qui se sont démarqués au cours de la dernière année.

Médaillée d’or aux Championnats du monde de 2023 et cinq fois médaillée en Grand Chelem, Christa Deguchi a été récompensée pour ses nombreux succès, tout comme François Gauthier-Drapeau, triple médaillé de bronze en Grand Chelem, en 2023 seulement.

Chez les judokas de moins de 21 ans, ce sont Evelyn Beaton et John Jr Messé A Bessong qui ont reçu cet honneur, eux qui ont grandement brillé sur la scène internationale.

Carla Van Zyl et Lowan Le Bris ont été nommés athlètes par excellence chez les moins de 18 ans. Ils étaient tous les deux montés sur le podium lors de l’Open panaméricain cadet disputé à Montréal, en novembre dernier. Nicole-Daria Manaila et Amir Temirbaev ont été nommés athlètes par excellence de moins de 16 ans.

Finalement, les prix d’athlètes de kata par excellence ont été remis à Aiko Lachaîne et Danielle Ferland. Le duo mère-fille a atteint la finale des Championnats du monde de kata en Ju-no-Kata et s’est classé au sixième rang de cette compétition très relevée.

En plus de tous ces athlètes, le Prix de contribution de toute une vie a été octroyé à Claude Lesage pour toute son implication des dernières années chez Judo Canada. Gilles Bellerose a quant à lui mérité le Prix de héros de Judo Canada.

Canadian Judo Community Showcased at 2023-24 Annual Awards and Recognition Gala!

Montréal, May 28, 2024 – Christa Deguchi and François Gauthier-Drapeau, named senior athletes of the year, were among the 18 award recipients at Judo Canada’s 2023-2024 Awards and Recognition Gala in Montréal on Sunday.

The gala, held at the closing of the Open National Championships, which took place from May 23 to 26 at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, showcased the achievements of the volunteers, clubs, and athletes who have distinguished themselves over the past year.

Deguchi, the gold medallist at the 2023 World Championships and a five-time Grand Slam medallist, was rewarded for her numerous accomplishments, as was Gauthier-Drapeau, who won three Grand Slam bronze medals in 2023 alone.

In the U21 age category, Evelyn Beaton and John Jr Messé A Bessong, who have excelled in international competition, received the same award.

Carla Van Zyl and Lowan Le Bris were named U18 athletes of the year. They both finished on the podium at the Cadet Pan-American Open, which was held in Montréal last November. Nicole-Daria Manaila and Amir Temirbaev were named U16 athletes of the year.

The kata athlete of the year awards went to Aiko Lachaîne and Danielle Ferland. The mother-daughter team reached the finals of the World Kata Championships in Ju-no-Kata, finishing sixth in the highly competitive event.

Alongside the athletic awards, the Lifetime Contribution Award was presented to Claude Lesage for his many years of involvement with Judo Canada. Gilles Bellerose was presented with the Judo Canada Hero Award.
