Montréal, 12 septembre 2022 – La saison 2022-2023 du circuit canadien Giant Sherwood Ford se mettra en branle à Winnipeg, du 14 au 16 octobre, dans le cadre de l’Open du Manitoba. Il s’agira d’une grande première pour la capitale manitobaine qui accueillera l’élite nationale du judo dans le cadre de cette première des neuf étapes du circuit canadien Giant Sherwood Ford 2022-2023 qui s’arrêtera dans sept provinces.
Les meilleurs judokas qui termineront au sommet du classement cumulatif féminin et masculin du circuit mettront la main sur une bourse de 2500 $ chacun.
Les organisateurs manitobains étaient prêts depuis longtemps à accueillir l’élite canadienne du judo, sauf que la pandémie qui a frappé la planète de plein fouet les a forcés à mettre ce projet sur la glace.
« Ça fait presque trois ans que nous sommes à pied d’œuvre dans ce dossier. Les gens du comité organisateur étaient déçus lorsqu’il y a eu les annulations. Ils comprenaient la raison, mais cela a fait en sorte qu’ils sont encore plus déterminés », a reconnu Milton Good, président de Judo Manitoba.
Ce tournoi national qui devrait attirer entre 200 et 300 participants arrive à point nommé dans sa province selon lui.
« Jusqu’à cette année, nous étions la seule province à ne pas accueillir un tournoi de ce circuit. Je pense que ce sera bon pour Judo Manitoba et que cette compétition va nous mettre sur la carte. »
« Nous sommes très heureux d’ajouter cette étape. Cela consolide le circuit en ajoutant une offre et confirme l’intérêt de notre communauté d’y adhérer et d’y contribuer », a souligné Nicolas Gill, Directeur général et Directeur haute performance de Judo Canada.
L’Open du Manitoba sera présenté au Dakota Community Centre de Winnipeg, ce qui offrira au sport une belle vitrine au judo croit M. Good.
« Un de nos buts est de faire la promotion du judo. Des pratiquants de différents sports seront présents au Centre et ils pourront voir à quoi ressemble notre sport. »
Le président ajoute qu’il est aussi sûr que le bouche à oreille fera son travail pour attirer davantage de participants à l’édition 2023.
« C’est notre plan. En organisant un événement de premier plan, les gens voudront revenir l’an prochain », a-t-il conclu.

Canadian Judo Finally Returns to Manitoba!
Montréal, September 12, 2022 – The 2022-2023 season of the Giant Sherwood Ford Canadian Tour will kick off with the Manitoba Open in Winnipeg on October 14-16. It will be a major first-time event for Manitoba’s capital city, which will host the nation’s judo elite on the first of nine stops on the 2022-2023 Giant Sherwood Ford Canadian Tour, which will visit seven provinces.
The judokas who finish at the top of the circuit’s cumulative men’s and women’s rankings will each receive a $2,500 prize.
The organizers of the Manitoba event had been preparing to host Canada’s judo elite for a long time, but the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to put the project on hold.
“We’ve been working on this project for almost three years. The members of the organizing committee were disappointed when the events had to be cancelled. Although they understood why, it seemed to light an even brighter fire under them,” noted Milton Good, President of Judo Manitoba.
The national tournament, which is expected to draw between 200 and 300 participants, is a welcome development for the province.
“Until this year, we were the only province not hosting a tournament on this circuit. I think it will be good for Manitoba. It will put us on the map.”
“We’re very happy to be adding this stage. The new event will bolster the circuit, and it affirms the community’s interest in joining and contributing to the tour,” noted Nicolas Gill, Chief Executive Officer and High Performance Director of Judo Canada.
The Manitoba Open will take place at the Dakota Community Centre in Winnipeg. It will provide a great showcase for the sport of judo, according to Good.
“One of our goals is to promote the discipline of judo. People who play different sports will be at the Centre, and they’ll see what our sport is like.”
In Gill’s opinion, word of mouth will play a significant role in attracting an even greater number of participants to the 2023 edition.
“That’s our plan. By hosting a premier event, we’ll entice even more people to come back next year, » he concluded.
