L’édition 2019 du Tournoi Invitation de Goalball de Montréal : une réussite retentissante

Une finale américaine chez les hommes

Montréal, le 29 janvier 2019 – L’équipe de l’Association sportive des aveugles du Québec est heureuse d’annoncer le succès de la dix-neuvième édition du Tournoi Invitation de Goalball de Montréal. Cette rencontre sportive, considérée comme l’une des plus importantes en Amérique du Nord, a réuni treize équipes nord-américaines qui se sont affrontées pour remporter le titre de meilleure équipe de l’année.

Les grands honneurs de la compétition masculine sont allés à l’équipe californienne Crown qui a remporté l’or contre les Goon Squad du Delaware au compte de 9 à 5; pour sa part, l’Alberta a remporté en prolongation le bronze contre l’équipe de la Colombie-Britannique par la marque de 4 à 3.

Du côté féminin, c’est l’équipe de l’Ontario All Blacks qui repart avec le titre de championne après avoir défait l’équipe albertaine au compte de 10 à 4. Le bronze est allé à la Colombie-Britannique suite à sa victoire contre la Nouvelle-Écosse au compte de 7 à 2.

L’équipe masculine québécoise composée de Bruno Haché, Simon Tremblay et Rakibul Karim a terminé en 8e position. « Les gars ont très bien joué ensemble, la chimie était là entre eux, même dans la défaite. Étant blessés tous les trois, ils ont près de trois semaines pour récupérer avant de partir pour Détroit pour leur prochaine compétition », explique Nathalie Séguin, entraîneure en chef, le sourire aux lèvres.

L’Association sportive des aveugles du Québec, hôtesse de cette compétition, tient à remercier l’engagement d’une cinquantaine de bénévoles qui ont contribué à faire de cet événement une belle réussite : Arbitres, officiels mineurs (juges de but, chronométreurs, marqueurs), bénévoles à l’accueil et aux statistiques, chauffeurs, gens à la cuisine, shérif.

La présentation de l’édition 2019 du TIGM fut possible grâce à l’appui financier de nos généreux bailleurs de fonds et commanditaires : ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, Ville de Montréal, Physioactif Claude-Robillard, Pepsi Canada, Double Pizza, Hotel Espresso Montréal Centre-Ville/Downtown, les Jardins Dauphinais, Défi sportif, Dagwoods, Protection Incendie Idéal (Laval et Québec) et Location Légaré.

Chez les femmes : Emma Reinke (All Blacks) et Maryam Salehizadeh (Colombie-Britannique) ayant compté toutes deux 17 buts en 5 parties.

The 2019 edition of the Montreal Open Goalball Tournament: a resounding success

An American final on the men’s side

Montreal, January 29th, 2019 – The Quebec Blind Sports Association (Association sportive des aveugles du Québec or ASAQ)’s team is pleased to announce the success of the nineteenth edition of the Montreal Open Goalball Tournament (MOGT). This sporting event, considered one of the most important in North America, brought together thirteen North American teams who competed to win the title of best team of the year.

The great honors of the men’s competition went to the Californian team Crown that won gold against the Goon Squad from Delaware 9 to 5. For its part, Alberta won the bronze medal against the British Columbian team 4 to 3.

On the women’s side, it was the Ontario All Blacks team that left with the title of champion after defeating the Alberta team 10 to 4. Bronze went to British Columbia as a result of its victory against Nova Scotia 7 to 2.

The Quebec men’s team composed of the athletes Bruno Haché, Simon Tremblay and Rakibul Karim finished in 8th position. « The guys played very well together, the chemistry was there between them, even in defeat. Being wounded all three, they have almost three weeks to recover before they leave for Detroit for their next competition, says Nathalie Séguin, head coach.

The Quebec Blind Sports Association (Association sportive des aveugles du Québec or ASAQ), hostess of this competition, would like to thank the commitment of some fifty volunteers who helped make this event a great success: referees, minor officials, volunteers at the reception and statistics, drivers, people in the kitchen and sheriff.
