L’équipe canadienne continue sa récolte de médailles

Montréal, 24 mai 2024 – L’équipe canadienne de plongeon a ajouté huit médailles à son compteur vendredi, après les sept remportées la veille à la Coupe junior des Amériques présentée à Mission Viejo jusqu’à dimanche.

Vendredi, le Saskatchewanais Kash Tarasoff (457,55) a offert une belle lutte à son coéquipier Claude-Olivier Lisé-Coderre (453,80) pour procurer au pays la médaille d’or à la plateforme garçons B (14-15 ans). Les deux Canadiens ont fini loin devant le médaillé de bronze, l’Américain Leyton Dean, qui a accusé un retard de plus de 30 points sur la deuxième place.

Il s’agit d’un deuxième doublé des Canadiens qui en avaient fait de même jeudi, au tremplin de 1 m.

« Au début de la compétition, je voulais juste faire de bons plongeons obligatoires, car cela me positionnerait bien pour la finale », a reconnu le vainqueur, ajoutant que son plongeon renversé a été plus difficile, mais qu’il a su revenir en force à ses deux plongeons suivants.

Lisé-Coderre, du Québec, était également satisfait de son concours.

« J’ai eu une très belle journée de compétition. J’ai eu un peu plus de difficulté à la tour récemment et mes résultats étaient moins bons. J’avais un peu perdu confiance et aujourd’hui (vendredi), c’est juste un soulagement de faire des plongeons comme à l’entraînement. J’ai beaucoup appris aujourd’hui. »

Toujours à la plateforme des 14-15 ans, mais chez les filles cette fois, l’Ontarienne Ella Lindsay (344,95) a pris le deuxième rang devant l’Albertaine Lila Gokiert (326,15). Également inscrite, l’Albertaine Daniela Durevska (297,05) s’est classée septième.

« En finale, je suis contente d’avoir corrigé des erreurs faites en ronde préliminaire », a reconnu la médaillée d’argent, qui a également mentionné que les conditions météo ont été un défi supplémentaire, car elle participait à compétition extérieure pour une première fois sur la scène internationale.

« Ça peut être imprévisible à cause du vent. Il y a aussi le froid qu’il faut parfois gérer, surtout quand on attend notre tour en haut de la plateforme. »

Le 1 m garçons C (12-13 ans) est l’autre épreuve où des représentants canadiens ont fini deuxième et troisième, grâce aux prestations de l’Ontarien Gabin Emptoz Lacote (280,05) et de l’Albertain Chase Shaw (277,20).

Décoré d’or jeudi au 3 m garçons A (16-18 ans), l’Ontarien Emmitt Reesor (497,55) a de nouveau été médaillé vendredi, mettant cette fois la main sur la médaille d’argent au tremplin de 1 m. Son compatriote Christopher Booler, du Québec, (474,00) a suivi au quatrième rang.

La Québécoise Sara-Jade Tessier (296,20) a mis la main sur une deuxième médaille de bronze en deux jours. Après celle obtenue à la plateforme jeudi, elle s’est classée troisième au tremplin de 3 m devant sa coéquipière Lauren Vickaryous (281,40).

Keira Lu (411,65) et Alexa Fung (400,70) ont quant à elles terminé sixième et neuvième au 3 m filles A (16-18 ans).

L’avant-dernière journée de la compétition aura lieu samedi.

Diving Canada – TYR Junior America’s Cup

Canadians Pursue Medal Haul

Montréal, May 24, 2024 – The Canadian diving team added eight medals to its tally on Friday, following the seven it won yesterday at the Junior America’s Cup, being held in Mission Viejo until Sunday.

On Friday, Saskatchewan’s Kash Tarasoff (457.55) put up a good fight against teammate Claude-Olivier Lisé-Coderre (453.80) to claim the gold medal for Canada in the boys’ Group B platform event (14-15 years). The two Canadians finished well ahead of bronze medallist Leyton Dean of the USA, who trailed second place by more than 30 points.

It was the second one-two finish for the two Canadians, who pulled off the same feat in Thursday’s 1m springboard event.

“At the beginning of the competition, I just wanted to do well on the compulsory dives, so that I would be well-positioned for the final,” explained the gold medallist, adding that although his reverse dive was a little more difficult, he was able to bounce back for his subsequent dives.

Quebec’s Lisé-Coderre was also satisfied with his performance.

“I had a great competition day. I’ve had a little bit of trouble on the tower lately, so my results haven’t been so great. I had lost a bit of my confidence, but today [Friday], it was just a relief to perform my dives like I do in training. I learned a lot today.” 

In the girls’ platform event (14-15 years), Ontario’s Ella Lindsay (344.95) finished second, just ahead of Alberta’s Lila Gokiert (326.15). Daniela Durevska (297.05), also of Alberta, finished seventh in the same event.

“In the final, I was happy to have corrected some of the errors I made in the preliminaries,” said the silver medallist, adding that the weather conditions had added to the challenge, given that it was her first outdoor competition at the international level.

“The wind can make things unpredictable. You also have to deal with the cold, especially when you’re at the top of the tower, waiting for your turn.” 

In the boys’ Group C 1m event (12-13 years), Ontario’s Gabin Emptoz Lacote (280.05) and Alberta’s Chase Shaw (277.20) also finished second and third.

Ontario’s Emmitt Reesor (497.55), who won gold on Thursday in the boys’ Group A 3m event (16-18 years), was back on the podium on Friday, this time claiming silver in the 1m springboard contest.

Quebec’s Sara-Jade Tessier (296.20) won a second bronze medal in as many days. After finishing third in Thursday’s platform event, she repeated the feat in Friday’s 3m springboard event, just ahead of her teammate Lauren Vickaryous (281.40).

Keira Lu (411.65) and Alexa Fung (400.70) finished sixth and ninth in the girls’ Group A 3m final (16-18 years).

The penultimate day of competition will take place on Saturday.
