Guylaine Sirois, gestionnaire des communications 514 252-3345, poste 3745 – gsirois@golfquebec.org Success for Paré and Benson at the Bromont Invitational Montreal, July 9, 2019 – On Tuesday, the Golf Château Bromont course hosted the third and final round of the second edition of the Bromont Invitational. Following an intense, eventful day, Quebeckers Noémie Paré (Victoriaville) and Yohann Benson (Golf Laval-sur-le-Lac) both emerged victorious. Holding a two-stroke lead over Ontario's Rebecca Lee-Bentham as she entered the final round, Paré had to dig deep to claim the top honours. After watching Lee-Bentham tie up the score on the 18th hole, Paré quickly recovered by shooting a par in the playoff, which was enough to beat her opponent, who scored a bogey. “I feel great! Yesterday (Monday), I played my best round ever, finishing 6-under with no bogeys, which really energized me for today. I had a good day, and I have to commend Rebecca, who caught up to me at the end with her two birdies and forced the playoff,” stated Paré, who managed to beat all the professional golfers in the tournament despite her amateur status. “In addition to the win, I also gained a lot of experience today! Rebecca won a major tournament in Toronto last week and has played on the LPGA circuit. I’m very proud of what I accomplished and I’m really looking forward to the next tournament,” she added. In the final tournament results, 20-year-old Paré finished with a 7-under (212), one stroke ahead of Lee-Bentham (213), who was awarded the $6,000 purse for the top professional player. Katherine Gravel-Coursol (Blainvillier) played an excellent last round of 67 (6-under), leaving her with an even-par score for the tournament (219) and a third place finish. Benson’s second victory of 2019 Although the first edition of the Bromont Invitational was open exclusively to women, a men's event was added this year, and Quebec's Yohann Benson seized the opportunity to claim his second victory of the season. The pro from Laval-sur-le-Lac quickly made up a two-stroke deficit on leader Vaita Guillaume (Royal Québec). From there, he never looked back, finishing his day with 4-under (68). “The conditions were a little tougher today, but I managed. I’ve been struggling with some back pain, so I had to rely on my experience to come away with the win,” explained Benson, who also won the Spring Open on May 31 at the Beaconsfield Golf Club. “I kept my patience. I knew I had a good chance of pulling ahead of the others on the back nine. For me, it’s special to be back in Quebec and I’m really happy to be able to celebrate my second victory with my family and my son, who is here with me today.” Benson’s cumulative score for the tournament was 203 (13-under), for which he was awarded the $6,000 purse. Pierre-Alexandre Bédard (Cap-Rouge), Brandon Lacasse (Knowlton) and Vaita Guillaume all tied for second place honours with a score of 205 (11-under). The top amateur spot went to Alexis Chabot (Pinegrove), who finished with 211 (5-under).
