Vancouver, 19 mars 2022 – Champion en solo la veille, Mikaël Kingsbury a poursuivi sa lancée à la Coupe du monde de Megève, en France, en remportant l’épreuve des bosses en parallèle, samedi, confirmant sa place au sommet du classement général de la saison dans cette spécialité.
Ayant mis la main sur le Globe de cristal en simple la veille, le Québécois a ajouté deux nouveaux Globes samedi : celui des épreuves en parallèle ainsi que celui du classement général des bosses.
Opposé à Ikuma Horishima en finale, le skieur de Deux-Montagnes a poursuivi sa domination avec une victoire convaincante alors que le Japonais eut perdu l’équilibre après le deuxième saut.
« C’est fou ! Ç’a été une excellente finale. Je suis content de finir la saison sur une bonne note et de réussir un doublé ici, à Megève, devant une foule incroyable. Je me sens tellement bien », a-t-il mentionné en entrevue après sa victoire.
En route vers la grande finale, Kingsbury a éliminé coup sur coup le Finlandais Severi Vierela, l’Américain Cole McDonald et le Suédois Ludvig Fjallstrom. Ce dernier a battu son compatriote Walter Wallberg en finale pour s’emparer de la médaille de bronze.
Gabriel Dufresne (6e) a remporté son premier duel éliminatoire contre le Français Martin Suire avant de subir l’élimination au tour suivant contre Wallberg. Mikaël Kingsbury a pris le temps de lui donner du crédit pour sa victoire grâce à un coup de pouce en début de journée.
« Je veux remercier mon coéquipier Gabriel Dufresne, il m’a affirmé que je devrais descendre davantage sur le parcours rouge et c’est une stratégie qui a été payante. Je vais lui devoir quelques bières ce soir, c’est certain. »
Quant à Elliot Vaillancourt (16e), il s’est incliné contre Horishima en huitième de finale.
Du côté féminin, la Française Perrine Laffont a pu compter sur l’appui inconditionnel de ses partisans pour monter sur la plus haute marche du podium pour la deuxième journée consécutive. Elle y a été accompagnée par l’Australienne Jakara Anthony et par l’Américaine Jaelin Kauf.
Justine Dufour-Lapointe a obtenu le meilleur résultat canadien de la journée en terminant au neuvième échelon. Valérie Gilbert (11e), Maia Schwinghammer (12e) et Berkley Brown (13e) ont suivi de près Dufour-Lapointe.
Chloé Dufour-Lapointe a terminé 15e, alors que Sofiane Gagnon a été victime d’une chute à son duel de huitième de finale face à la Japonaise Anri Kawamura. Elle a conclu la journée en 16e place.

Mikaël Kingsbury on Top to the End
Vancouver, March 19, 2022 – Following yesterday’s singles moguls win, Mikaël Kingsbury continued his winning streak on Saturday in Megève, France, clinching the men’s dual moguls event and securing his spot at the top of the 2021-2022 rankings in the discipline.
Having won the Crystal Globe in singles moguls the day before, the Québécois added two more Globes to his collection on Saturday: dual moguls and overall moguls.
The skier from Deux-Montagnes, who was pitted against Ikuma Horishima in the final, continued his domination of the discipline with a decisive victory after Horishima lost his balance on the second jump.
“It’s crazy! It was a great final. I’m happy to finish the season on a high note and be two-for-two here in Megève, in front of this amazing crowd. I feel awesome,” he said in an interview following the race.
En route to the big final, Kingsbury disposed of Severi Vierela of Finland, Cole McDonald of the USA and Ludvig Fjallstrom of Sweden in back-to-back victories. Fjallstrom later defeated his countrymate Walter Wallberg in the final to take the bronze medal.
Gabriel Dufresne won his first elimination heat against Martin Suire of France before being eliminated in the next round by Wallberg. He finished sixth. Kingsbury gave a shout-out to Dufresne for having given him a useful tip earlier in the day. “I’d like to thank my teammate Gabriel Dufresne. He told me I should go and switch to the red course, and the strategy paid off. I definitely owe him some beers tonight.”
Elliot Vaillancourt bowed out to Horishima in the round of sixteen and finished sixteenth.
In the women’s competition, Perrine Laffont of France had the full support of her home country fans as she made her way to the top of the podium for the second day in a row. She was accompanied by Jakara Anthony of Australia and Jaelin Kauf of the USA.
Justine Dufour-Lapointe posted the best Canadian result of the day, finishing in ninth place. Valérie Gilbert, Maia Schwinghammer and Berkley Brown followed closely behind in 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively.
Chloé Dufour-Lapointe finished 15th, and Sofiane Gagnon ended the day in 16th place after a wipeout in her round-of-sixteen race against Anri Kawamura of Japan.
