Accès escalade Montréal

Montréal hosts the first Olympic Climbing Trials of the Americas

Montréal, october 19th 2017 — The first Olympic trials in the sport of climbing for the Americas are taking place in Montréal from October 30th to November 5th, 2017. Accès escalade Montréal will be host of the 2017 Pan American Youth Championships, which will be a combined Olympic qualifying event for athletes representing their country at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games in 2018.

The Horizon Roc climbing centre has undergone major upgrades to bring it up to the high international standards required for the three climbing disciplines – Speed, Lead and Block climbing – as well as for the Olympic Combined discipline. Recognizing how the sport of climbing is also going through important transformations, the organizing committee, in collaboration with the PanAmerican Council, is treating this competition as a significant milestone towards the 2020 Olympic Games.

“To host such a high-calibre climbing event in Montréal is unprecedented,” said Jury President Paul Ledet. “Not only does it provide our athletes, coaches, route-setters and judges an opportunity to develop their skills at the international level, it also gives spectators a chance to experience the incredibly exciting sport of climbing with the best junior athletes of North, Central and South America!”

Thanks to a Webcast, the entire world can be part of the action involving 300 of the best junior climbers on the continent from a decade countries. Enthusiasts are invited to come cheer on our athletes at this world-class event. “We are so proud to have been selected on the Canadian team. It’s truly an Olympic dream of ours to experience an international competition in front of our friends and family!” expressed 14 and 15 year old athletes Hugo Valence and Babette Roy.
