Montréal, 28 mai 2023 – Pamela Ware (CAMO), qui avait mis la main sur la médaille d’argent au tremplin d’un mètre vendredi aux Championnats canadiens disputés à Toronto, a récidivé dimanche en montant cette fois sur la plus haute marche du podium au 3 m, réussissant au passage un record personnel.

« Je me sentais tellement bien aujourd’hui (dimanche). J’ai battu mon record personnel par deux points, alors c’est une journée très excitante », a indiqué Ware après sa victoire.

Ware a obtenu une note de 66,00 à son premier plongeon en finale, ce qui la plaçait au deuxième rang provisoire derrière Mia Vallée (CAMO) à ce moment. La plongeuse de 30 ans a ensuite démontré une constance exemplaire à ses quatre sauts suivants pour devancer Vallée et filer vers la médaille d’or avec 374,55 points.

« J’ai encore de la difficulté avec mon premier plongeon, mais ça s’améliore. Pour le reste, tout a super bien été et je suis vraiment heureuse de mon résultat. »

Cette victoire donne également une énorme dose de confiance à Pamela Ware en prévision des Championnats du monde et des Jeux panaméricains qui se dérouleront dans les prochains mois.

« Cette fin de semaine, il y avait un peu plus de pression comme c’était une étape importante pour les qualifications pour les Championnats du monde notamment. Je ressentais un peu de stress, mais je pense que j’ai bien géré le tout. Je vais prendre une semaine de congé avant de reprendre l’entraînement pour continuer à m’améliorer », a-t-elle ajouté.

Quant à Vallée, elle a finalement pris le deuxième rang de la compétition avec 345,90 points, tout juste devant Aimee Wilson (Calgary) et ses 329,25 points.

Zsombor-Murray champion à la plateforme

Le Québécois Nathan Zsombor-Murray (PCDC) a été étincelant en finale à la plateforme de 10 m dimanche, accumulant un impressionnant total de 510,50 au terme de ses six plongeons, mettant du même coup la main sur le titre de champion canadien.

L’athlète de 20 ans a mis la barre haute dès son deuxième saut de la finale alors que six des sept juges lui ont octroyé une note parfaite. Il n’a jamais eu à regarder derrière par la suite.

« Je suis très content de mes notes et de mon résultat. Je pense qu’il y a encore place à de l’amélioration. J’aurais peut-être pu faire mieux à mes trois derniers plongeons. Je suis toutefois satisfait de ma performance, c’est de bon augure pour le reste de la saison », a mentionné Zsombor-Murray.

Le Québécois a été accompagné sur le podium par Ciro Mejia de TDA (424,10 points) et Arnaud Corbeil de CAMO (401,35 points), deux jeunes plongeurs qui ont fait tourner bien des têtes lors de la finale.

« Ils m’ont vraiment impressionné ! Arnaud et Ciro sont très solides et ils ont offert une belle performance lors de la finale. Je m’entraîne avec Arnaud et je sais à quel point il est talentueux. Je suis heureux qu’il ait pu le démontrer aujourd’hui », a ajouté Nathan Zsombor-Murray.

Avec une récolte de six médailles durant la fin de semaine, le club CAMO de Montréal a remporté la bannière du meilleur club au classement général.

Pamela Ware Proves Once Again She’s Back on Top

Montréal, May 28, 2023 – Pamela Ware (CAMO), who won the silver medal in the 1-metre springboard event on Friday at the Canadian Championships in Toronto, was back on the podium on Sunday after winning gold in the 3-metre event, setting a personal record in the process.

“I felt so good today (Sunday). I beat my personal record by two points, so it’s a pretty exciting day,” said Ware, following her win.

On her first final-round dive, Ware earned a score of 66.00, which put her in second place provisionally, behind Mia Vallée (CAMO). The 30-year-old then demonstrated exemplary consistency on her next four dives, edging out Vallée and cruising to gold with a total of 374.55 points.

“I still have some difficulty with that first dive, but it’s getting better. As for everything else, it went well, and I’m really happy with the outcome.” 

Today’s result serves as a huge confidence boost for Ware ahead of the World Championships and the Pan-American Games, both of which are coming up in the next few months.

“Because this weekend was an important step in the qualifications for the World Championships, there was a bit more pressure. I was a bit stressed, but I think I managed it well. I’m going to take a week off before training again to continue improving,” she added.

Vallée placed second with 345.90 points, just ahead of Aimee Wilson (Calgary), who finished third with 329.25 points.

Zsombor-Murray wins platform championship

Quebec’s Nathan Zsombor-Murray (PCDC) was brilliant in the 10-metre platform final on Sunday, racking up an impressive 510.50 points on his six dives to claim the Canadian title.

The 20-year-old set the bar high on his second dive in the final, with six of the seven judges awarding him a perfect score. He never looked back.

“I’m very happy with my scores and my result. I still think there’s room for improvement. I could maybe have done better on my last three dives, but I’m still happy with my performance. It bodes well for the rest of the season,” said Zsombor-Murray.

The Québécois was accompanied on the podium by Ciro Mejia of TDA (424.10 points) and Arnaud Corbeil of CAMO (401.35 points), two young divers who turned several heads during the final.

“They really impressed me! Arnaud and Ciro are really solid, and they did really well in the final. I train with Arnaud, and I know how talented he is. I’m glad he got to demonstrate that today,” added Zsombor-Murray.

With a total of six medals over the weekend, Montréal’s CAMO Club was named top club overall.
