Montréal, 23 mai 2025 – Le Britanno-Colombien Carson Paul et la Québécoise Mia Vallée sont montés sur la plus haute marche du podium au premier jour des Championnats nationaux d’été de plongeon présentés au Centre Shaw de Saskatoon, vendredi, en Saskatchewan.
Les 462,80 points amassés par Paul lui ont permis d’inscrire une marque personnelle au tremplin de 3 mètres et de mettre ainsi la main sur un deuxième titre national après sa victoire aux Championnats canadiens d’hiver de Winnipeg en 2023.
« En arrivant ici, c’était l’épreuve que je visais et je voulais la victoire ! Finir avec la médaille d’or, c’est la cerise sur le sundae », a reconnu l’athlète du club Boardworks, également premier des qualifications.
L’éventuel champion national était de retour à la compétition après une pause de trois semaines qui a suivi la fin des Coupes du monde. Il a pris les commandes après son troisième passage sur le tremplin lorsqu’il est passé devant Cédric Fofana, provisoirement premier après les deux premiers plongeons. Le Britanno-Colombien n’a plus regardé derrière par la suite et il a creusé l’écart sur son plus proche poursuivant.
« J’ai hâte à cet été et je suis content de voir que la forme revient. J’ai beaucoup travaillé avec mon entraîneur et ç’a payé aujourd’hui (vendredi). J’ai l’impression que je n’ai pas fait mes meilleurs plongeons sur la scène mondiale et je veux voir où je me situe », a ajouté le médaillé d’or.
Médaillé d’argent, Cédric Fofana (CAMO) a suivi avec 425,15 points pour devancer Tazman Abramowicz (Calgary, 414,60).
« Je suis quand même satisfait parce qu’en préliminaires, ce n’était pas la folie et 350 points, ce n’est pas nécessairement ce que je vise. Mais une fois en finale, ç’a bien été et mes sauts d’appel étaient hyper constants. C’est là-dessus que je travaille depuis vraiment longtemps et ç’a paru en compétition », a soutenu le Québécois qui sera de la compétition de 1 m samedi.
Objectif atteint pour Mia Vallée
Première des qualifications au tremplin de 1 mètre en début d’après-midi, Vallée n’a laissé planer aucun doute, quelques heures plus tard en grande finale, où elle a remporté la médaille d’or avec ses 305,25 points pour devancer sa coéquipière du club CAMO, Amélie-Laura Jasmin (262,25). Sur le podium, les deux athlètes qui ont pris part à la récente Super finale de la Coupe du monde de Pékin au début du mois ont été accompagnées de l’Ontarienne Alexa Fung (Toronto Diving Academy, 252,30).
« Je me suis servi de cette compétition comme d’un échauffement pour celle du 3 mètres qui s’en vient. Je suis vraiment contente de la façon dont j’ai plongé. Même au 1 mètre, ça se voit comment je me suis améliorée dans plusieurs aspects de mes plongeons. La dernière fois que j’avais fait un score au-dessus de 300 points, c’était en 2022. Et aujourd’hui, c’était mon but. »
L’action reprendra samedi, à Saskatoon, avec la présentation de l’épreuve féminine à la tour de 10 mètres, ainsi que celle au tremplin de 1 mètre chez les hommes.

Carson Paul and Mia Vallée Strike Gold!
Montréal, May 23, 2025 – On Friday, British Columbia’s Carson Paul and Quebec’s Mia Vallée claimed the top spot on the podium in their respective events on day one of the Summer National Diving Championships, being held at the Shaw Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Paul’s 462.80 points marked a new personal best for him on the 3m springboard and earned him a second national title, following up on his victory at the 2023 Winter National Championships in Winnipeg.
“Coming here, this was the event I had on my mind, and I wanted to win it! Earning the gold medal is like the cherry on top of the sundae,” said the member of the Boardworks diving club, who also finished first in the qualifiers.
Paul was making his return to competition following a three-week hiatus after the World Cups. He took the lead on his third dive, pulling ahead of Cédric Fofana, who had been in first place after the first two rounds. From then on, Paul did not look back, continuing to widen the gap between himself and his nearest opponent.
“I’m looking forward to this summer, and I’m happy to see that I’m getting back in shape. I’ve been working hard with my trainer, and today it paid off. I feel like I didn’t dive my best in the international competitions, and now I want to know where I stand,” added the gold medallist.
Fofana (CAMO) captured silver with 425.15 points, followed by Tazman Abramowicz (Calgary), who secured bronze with 414.60.
“I’m feeling satisfied because even though things didn’t go super well in the preliminary rounds, and 350 isn’t really the type of score I’m after, my dives were very consistent in the finals. I’ve been working on [my consistency] for a long time now, and it showed during the competition,” said the Québécois, who will take part in the 1m springboard event on Saturday.
Mia Vallée achieves her goal
After finishing first in the 1m springboard qualifiers in the early afternoon on Friday, Vallée left no doubt as to her intentions a few hours later in the big final, where she clinched the gold medal with 305.25 points, ahead of her CAMO Club teammate Amélie-Laura Jasmin (262.25). The two athletes, who competed at the World Cup Super Final in Beijing at the beginning of the month, were joined on the podium by Ontario’s Alexa Fung (Toronto Diving Academy, 252.30).
“I used this competition as a warm-up for the upcoming 3m event. I’m really happy with the way I dove. Even on the 1m board, I can see how I’ve improved in several aspects of my diving. The last time I scored over 300 points was in 2022. That was my goal today.”
The action will resume on Saturday in Saskatoon, with the women’s 10m platform competition and the men’s 1m springboard event.
