Montréal, 27 août 2026 – Kash Tarasoff, de Saskatoon, a une fois de plus démontré qu’il pouvait rivaliser avec l’élite mondiale. Jeudi, aux Championnats du monde juniors de plongeon qui sont disputés à Rjieka, en Croatie, l’athlète s’est classé quatrième à l’épreuve masculine de la plateforme A grâce à ses 539,45 points.

Son compatriote Samuel Talbot (493,10), de Longueuil (Québec) a lui aussi été finaliste et a conclu sa journée au septième rang.

Plus tôt à ces Championnats, les deux Canadiens avaient pris le neuvième rang à la plateforme en synchro.

Tarasoff a manqué la médaille de bronze par 21,75 points à l’épreuve remportée par le Russe Kirill Kosimov (587,70). L’Ukrainien Mark Hrytsenko (583,90) et le Chinois Jun Nie (561,20) ont occupé les deux autres marches du podium.

Le Saskatchewanais ne s’en voulait pas pour autant de ne pas réussir à les accompagner.

« J’étais vraiment au meilleur de ma forme aujourd’hui (jeudi) ! Il y a peut-être de petits ajustements que j’aurais pu faire, mais reste que je suis content de ce que j’ai fait. Je pense que j’aurais peut-être pu avoir le bronze, mais je fais partie des meilleurs au monde et ça, c’est un bon feeling », a commenté le plongeur qui sera encore d’âge junior l’année prochaine.

« C’est tellement plaisant de rivaliser contre soi-même et je peux dire que j’ai connu des Championnats du monde juniors remplis de succès ! »

Tarasoff repartira tout de même de la Croatie avec une médaille d’or qu’il a remportée en compagnie du Québécois Samuel McCaffrey au 3 m synchronisé 14-18 ans.

« Être médaille d’or avec mon ami au 3 m, c’était plaisant ! »

Aux qualifications matinales du 3 m féminin B, Sara-Jade Tessier (Blainville, Québec) et Maia Jane (Vancouver, Colombie-Britannique) se sont respectivement classées 14e et 19e. Elles ont été exclues de la finale où les 12 meilleures étaient retenues.

La dernière journée des Championnats du monde sera présentée vendredi. Chase Shaw sera en action au tremplin de 1 m masculin B, tandis que Lila Gokiert et Ella Lindsay seront de l’épreuve féminine de la plateforme A.

“I’m one of the best in the world, and that’s a great feeling!” – Kash Tarasoff

Montréal, August 27, 2026 – Kash Tarasoff has once again proven he can hold his own against the top divers in the world. On Thursday, the athlete from Saskatoon finished fourth in the boys’ Group A platform event at the Junior World Diving Championships in Rijeka, Croatia, with a score of 539.45 points.

His compatriot Samuel Talbot, of Longueuil, Quebec, also advanced to the finals in the same event and ended the day in seventh place (493.10).

Earlier this week, at the same championships, the two Canadian boys placed ninth in the synchronized platform competition.

In today’s event, Tarasoff finished 21.75 points behind bronze medallist Jun Nie of China (561.20). Kirill Kosimov of Russia captured the gold medal with 587.70 points, while Mark Hrytsenko of Ukraine secured silver with 583.90.

Tarasoff was not overly disappointed in not winning a medal.

“I really was at my best today! Yes, I probably could have made a few slight adjustments, but overall, I’m happy with my performance. I could maybe have won bronze, but still, I’m one of the best in the world, and that’s a great feeling,” explained the Saskatchewan native, who will still be in the junior age group next year.

“It’s been so rewarding to compete against myself, and I can safely say that these Junior World Championships have been very successful for me!” 

Tarasoff will depart Croatia with the gold medal he won in the synchronized 3m event (ages 14-18) alongside Samuel McCaffrey of Quebec.

“Winning the 3m gold medal with my friend was amazing!”, exclaimed Tarasoff.

In Thursday morning’s girls’ Group B 3m qualifiers, Sara-Jade Tessier (Blainville, Quebec) and Maia Jane (Vancouver, British Columbia) finished 14th and 19th, respectively. They were thus excluded from the finals, which were reserved for the top twelve competitors.

The Junior World Championships will wind down on Friday. Chase Shaw will compete in the boys’ Group B 1m springboard event, while Lila Gokiert and Ella Lindsay take part in the girls’ Group A platform competition.
