Montréal, 17 juillet 2025 – Les Championnats nationaux juniors élite Speedo 2025 battent leur plein à Edmonton, en Alberta. Les athlètes de la relève, répartis en deux catégories d’âge (A et B, hommes et femmes), s’affronteront au Kinsmen Sports Centre jusqu’à dimanche.
Jeudi, quatre plongeurs canadiens ont été décorés d’or en ouverture de l’événement. Daniela Durevska a triomphé au 1 m féminin groupe B, comme Jackson Congdon (BDA) dans le groupe A du 3 m masculin. Chase Shaw (Calgary) l’a emporté dans le groupe B du 3 m masculin et Ella Lindsay (NEPEAN Ottawa) à la plateforme chez les femmes du groupe A.
« Aujourd’hui, ç’a vraiment bien été ! J’ai remporté l’or pour la première fois dans une compétition nationale. Je suis vraiment contente et fière de moi », a lancé Daniela Durevska.
Dans une finale très serrée, la plongeuse de Calgary s’est battue jusqu’à la fin contre Alexandra Wood (Idive). Durevska a eu le dessus grâce à un pointage de 351,45. Originaire de la Colombie-Britannique, Wood est finalement montée sur la deuxième marche du podium avec 350,05 points, devant Jocelyn Casey (347,45 points), du club de Windsor.
« J’étais un peu stressée avant la finale, mais j’ai pris tout mon courage et ç’a fonctionné. Pour le reste de la compétition, je vais faire de mon mieux, je vais garder une attitude positive et je vais en profiter », a ajouté Durevska.
De son côté, le représentant du club BDA, Jackson Congdon, a réussi à se démarquer à son dernier plongeon en finale du 3 m masculin, dans le groupe A. Il a cumulé 571,65 points.
« Je sais comment bien faire tous mes plongeons, alors je me suis présenté aujourd’hui en ayant du plaisir et en voulant montrer ce que je sais faire », a affirmé Congdon après avoir récolté sa troisième médaille sur la scène nationale.
C’est Luc Goertzen, de Calgary, qui a reçu la médaille d’argent à 569,20 points et Mattias Frohloff, du club White Rock qui a été décoré de bronze avec 568,20 points.
Congdon et Frohloff seront de la partie ce vendredi, à l’occasion de l’épreuve masculine du 1 m.
« Je vais continuer de faire ce que je fais de mieux et je vais en profiter. Je ne me suis pas ici pour mess around, je veux bien faire les choses et être fier de moi », a partagé le vainqueur.
Du côté de la plateforme dans le groupe A féminin, Ella Lindsay (372,55 points) a décroché l’or tandis que Mathilde Laberge (365,50 points) et Livia McKibbin (339,90 points) ont été respectivement récompensées d’argent et de bronze.
Finalement, l’Albertain Chase Shaw (404,25 points) a été le quatrième athlète du jour à se retrouver sur la plus haute marche d’un podium, dans l’épreuve du 3 m masculin, dans le groupe B. Il a devancé Preston Cooledge du club KWDC (385,80 points) et Alistair Nisbet du club PCDC (381,90 points).
La journée s’est terminée en beauté pour les plongeurs canadiens qui ont pu profiter d’un concours de « rip », soit une compétition amicale dans laquelle les athlètes doivent entrer dans l’eau en faisant le moins d’éclaboussures possible.
Beaucoup d’action est à prévoir vendredi aux Championnats nationaux juniors élite Speedo 2025. Les épreuves du 1 m groupe A et de la plateforme groupe B chez les hommes seront présentées, ainsi que celle du 3 m chez les femmes du groupe B.

Montréal, July 17th, 2025 – The 2025 Speedo Junior Elite National Championships are in full swing in Edmonton, Alberta, as up-and-coming athletes divided into two age categories (A and B, men and women) will compete at the Kinsmen Sports Centre until Sunday.
On Thursday, four Canadian divers took home gold medals on the opening day of the event. Daniela Durevska triumphed in the women’s 1m group B, as did Jackson Congdon (BDA) in the men’s 3m group A. Chase Shaw (Calgary) won the men’s 3m group B and Ella Lindsay (NEPEAN Ottawa) the women’s group A platform.
“I performed tremendously today! I won gold for the first time in a national competition and I’m proud of myself,” commented Daniela Durevska.
In a very tight final, the Calgary diver battled to the end against British Columbia’s Alexandra Wood (Idive) and came out on top with a final score of 351.45. In the end, Wood came second with 350.05 points, ahead of Windsor’s Jocelyn Casey (347.45).
“I was a bit stressed before the final, but I took all my courage and it paid off. For the rest of the competition, I’m going to keep a positive attitude and enjoy it,” added Durevska.
Meanwhile, BDA Club representative Jackson Congdon came out on top on his final dive in the men’s 3m final in group A with a total score of 571.65 points.
“I know how to execute all my dives, so I came to have fun and show what I can do,” said Congdon after capturing his third medal on the national stage.
Calgary’s Luc Goertzen grabbed silver with 569.20 points, and White Rock’s Mattias Frohloff was awarded bronze with a cumulative score of 568.20 points.
Congdon and Frohloff will be on hand this Friday for the men’s 1m event.
“I’ll keep doing what I do best and enjoy it. I’m not here to mess around, I want to do well and be proud of myself,” shared the winner.
In the women’s A group platform event, Ella Lindsay (372.55 points) took gold, while Mathilde Laberge (365.50 points) and Livia McKibbin (339.90 points) were awarded silver and bronze respectively.
Alberta’s Chase Shaw (404.25 points) was the fourth athlete of the day to stand on the top step of a podium when he beat Preston Cooledge of KWDC (385.80 points) and Alistair Nisbet of PCDC (381.90 points) in the men’s 3m Group B competition.
The day ended on a high note for Canadian divers, who enjoyed a “rip” contest – a friendly competition in which athletes must enter the water with as little splash as possible.
Plenty of action is in store for Friday at the Speedo 2025 Junior Elite National Championships with the men’s 1m group A and platform group B events, as well as the women’s 3m group B competition.
