Montréal, 20 août 2025 – Les plongeurs canadiens ont connu une excellente journée, mardi, aux Jeux panaméricains juniors d’Asunción, au Paraguay, où ils ont récolté trois nouvelles médailles.
Le duo formé de Benjamin Tessier et Matt Cullen, ainsi que celui formé de Katelyn Fung et Kate Miller, ont remporté l’or aux épreuves masculines et féminines de la plateforme de 10 mètres synchro, tandis que Carson Paul est monté sur la troisième marche du podium au tremplin de 3 mètres.
Derniers plongeurs en action lors de cette quatrième journée d’activités à la piscine du Centre aquatique olympique, Tessier et Cullen en ont mis plein la vue au concours synchro de la plateforme chez les hommes. Ils ont dominé avec un total de 413,46 points afin de mettre la main sur la médaille d’or.
« Je suis très fier de notre performance. On a été capables d’être constants et de faire une super bonne compétition, alors la médaille vaut beaucoup pour nous », a lancé Tessier en fin de journée.
Sur le podium, les plongeurs québécois ont été accompagnés des Mexicains Kenny Zamudio et Emilio Trevino (380,01), ainsi que des Cubains Bernaldo Arias et Carlos Ramos (350,07), respectivement deuxièmes et troisièmes.
« Nos plongeons n’ont pas été en bas de 7 et 7,5, ce qui est quand même très bon. On aurait voulu avoir des notes plus hautes pour faire un meilleur pointage, mais c’était tout de même un très bon pointage, on a donc de quoi être fiers. On a fait le meilleur qu’on pouvait ! » a affirmé Tessier.
Chez les femmes, Fung et Miller sont également montées sur la plus haute marche du podium à l’épreuve synchro depuis la plateforme. Le duo ontarien a récolté 289,05 points pour le doublé canadien.
« Je suis vraiment contente de terminer la saison avec une médaille d’or ! Les dernières semaines ont été épuisantes, mais on a fait un dernier effort et je pense que c’était une solide performance de notre part », a confié Fung au terme de l’épreuve.
« C’est toujours agréable de plonger avec Kate. On se pousse à être meilleures l’une et l’autre et je pense qu’on peut être fières de ce qu’on a accompli cette saison », a-t-elle ajouté.
Les Canadiennes ont devancé les Mexicaines Maria Sanchez et Suri Cueva (279,48), ainsi que les Américaines Ellireese Niday et Hannah McLaughlin (249,63).
Le plongeur de la Colombie-Britannique, Carson Paul, a pour sa part été décoré de bronze à l’épreuve du tremplin de 3 mètres grâce à un total de 403,75 points. L’athlète de 20 ans a effectué son meilleur plongeon à son avant-dernier passage au tremplin, récoltant une note de 85,50, ce qui lui a permis de se positionner au troisième rang.
Seuls les Mexicains David Vazquez (417,65), médaillé d’or, et Jesus Agundez (414,50), médaillé d’argent, ont devancé Paul lors de cette épreuve.
Seule autre Canadienne en action mardi, Amélie-Laura Jasmin a terminé au pied du podium à l’épreuve du tremplin de 3 mètres féminin. La plongeuse québécoise a récolté un total de 278,50 points.
L’Américaine Sophia Grace Verzyl a remporté l’or avec un pointage de 322,85. Elle a devancé les Mexicaines Mia Cueva (319,45) et Lia Cueva (292,95), respectivement deuxième et troisième.
L’équipe canadienne de plongeon termine donc les Jeux panaméricains juniors d’Asunción avec une récolte de cinq médailles, dont deux d’or.

Montréal, August 20th, 2025 – The Canadian contingent had an outstanding day on Tuesday at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, where it racked up three more medals.
The pairing of Benjamin Tessier and Matt Cullen, along with Katelyn Fung and Kate Miller, captured gold in the men’s and women’s 10-meter synchronized platform events, while Carson Paul climbed onto the third step of the podium in the 3-meter springboard competition.
The last divers in action on this fourth day of competition at the Olympic Aquatic Centre pool, Tessier and Cullen put on a spectacular show in the men’s synchronized platform event. They dominated with a total of 413.46 points to take home the gold medal.
“I’m very proud of our performance. We were able to stay consistent and have a great competition, so the medal means a lot to us,” remarked Tessier at the end of the day.
The Quebec divers were joined on the podium by Mexico’s Kenny Zamudio and Emilio Trevino (380.01) and Cuba’s Bernaldo Arias and Carlos Ramos (350.07), who finished second and third respectively.
“We earned at least 7 or 7.5 on each dive, which is excellent. We would have liked to achieve higher marks and get a better total, but it was still a very good score, so we have something to be proud of. We did the best we could!” exclaimed Tessier.
In the women’s competition, Fung and Miller also took the top spot on the podium in the synchronized platform event. The Ontario duo scored 289.05 points to notch the Canadian brace.
“I’m thrilled to end the season with a gold medal! The last few weeks have been exhausting, but we made one last push and put up a strong performance,” confessed Fung after the event.
“It’s always a treat to dive with Kate. We push each other to be better, and I think we can be proud of what we’ve accomplished this season,” she added.
The Canadians finished ahead of Mexico’s Maria Sanchez and Suri Cueva (279.48) and United States’ Ellireese Niday and Hannah McLaughlin (249.63).
British Columbia diver Carson Paul collected bronze in the 3-meter springboard event with a total score of 403.75 points. The 20-year-old athlete performed his best dive on his penultimate attempt, earning a score of 85.50, which secured him third place.
Only Mexicans David Vazquez (417.65) and Jesus Agundez (414.50) finished ahead of Paul in this event.
Amélie-Laura Jasmin was the only other Canadian in action on Tuesday. She finished at the foot of the podium in the women’s 3-meter springboard event with a total of 278.50 points.
American Sophia Grace Verzyl grabbed gold with a score of 322.85, finishing ahead of Mexico’s Mia Cueva (319.45) and Lia Cueva (292.95), who placed second and third respectively.
The Canadian diving team capped off the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción with a total of five medals, two of them gold.
