(OTTAWA – November 6, 2015) Canada’s senior women’s water polo team will be getting a taste of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Canadians are participating in an international tournament hosted this November by the Brazilian federation, in preparation for the Olympic Games next summer.
The six-team tournament will include the teams of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the Netherlands and the United States of America. The Canadian delegation will send out a 15-person team for the trip to Brazil. The schedule plans for joint training and scrimmages between the teams until November 12, followed by a round-robin tournament starting November 13.
The official Olympic venue, the open-air Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, will not be used for this event as modifications are still underway there in preparation for the Games. The November water polo event will be using the training pools which will be in usage for the Games.
“We are quite looking forward to a first test of the changes we made since this past summer and are keen on familiarizing ourselves better with the environment in Rio“ said Water Polo Canada’s High Performance Director, Roger Archambault. The Canadian team is able to attend this Olympic preparation event through the important support of its partners, including the Canadian Olympic Committee.
