Nadia Comaneci to be the spokesperson for the 47th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships

MONTRÉAL – The stars have aligned to shine brightly on Montréal in 2017, with the 47th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships (October 2–8, 2017) coinciding with the city’s 375th anniversary celebrations, the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation and the 50th anniversary of the Expo 67 world’s fair.

Experience Gymnastics cocktail
Almost a year to the day from the start of the World Championships, the organizing committee is thrilled to announce that Nadia Comaneci will be the official spokesperson for the 2017 edition of the event. And it plans to celebrate this great news in style: in conjunction with Cirque Éloize, the committee will welcome none other than Nadia Comaneci herself, as well as Ellie Black, Two-time Olympian (London 2012, Rio 2016), Scott Morgan, Olympian (Rio 2016), Shallon Olsen, Olympian (Rio 2016), Rose-Kaying Woo, Olympian (Rio 2016), at Cirque Éloize’s head office at Gare Dalhousie.

On October 5, 2016, the red carpet will be rolled out for Olympians freshly returned from Rio, the media and influential Montréalers, and DJ Geneviève Borne will help pump things up with some festive beats.

Heroes past, present and future
Montréal, the place to host large-scale athletic events, will once again be the setting for a new page in the annals of elite sports. There is no denying that Montréal is home to a remarkable line of sports heroes, including the queen of the 1976 Olympic Games, Nadia Comaneci, who will come out to see Canada’s and the world’s brightest gymnastics stars shine.

The Championships in numbers
The 2017 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will have millions of TV viewers tuning in to see all the action. The athletes, representing more than 80 countries, will get to discover the city and its numerous attractions throughout their stay. Meanwhile, Canadians from coast to coast will no doubt be looking on as their favourite gymnasts compete in the week long event. The 250 members of the media expected to turn out will help showcase both artistic gymnastics and the host city on the world stage. Presenting an event of this magnitude would not be possible without the financial support of key partners and sponsors such as the Government of Canada, the Government of Québec, the City of Montréal and Tourisme Montréal.
